Every November, colleges and universities around the country celebrate First Generation College Student Celebration, which is designed to increase awareness and engagement of first-generation students, staff and faculty. We are excited to celebrate the people who decided to take the first step toward earning a college degree! This year, Kent State Ashtabula would like to expand the awareness and engagement of First Generation College students and graduates within our community! What is a First Generation College student? A First Generation student is defined as a student whose parents did not complete a college degree. Research shows that communities benefit from having more college graduates in the community. College graduates tend to be more involved in their communities, specifically they have higher rates of civic engagement, higher volunteer rates, and higher voter turnout. Please help us celebrate this important group of people in our Conneaut community!

Last week was Stay Safe, Think Train Week. Trains are very present in our community. Students need to be aware of their hazards even when they are sitting idle. Here are some important safety reminders to keep in mind around railroad tracks: Look and Listen – Always be alert for trains when approaching tracks. Obey Signals – Wait for signals to clear and never go around gates. Stay Focused – Keep distractions away, especially near crossings. Cross Carefully – Only cross when it's safe and ensure no train is approaching. Never pass through a stopped train. Report Hazards – Let authorities know if you spot unsafe conditions near tracks.
